It certainly is a surprise to me that after two weeks into the season, the Blue Jays, Royals, Mariners, Marlins, and Padres are leading their divisions, and the Red Sox, Rays, Angels, Yankees, and Phillies are at or near cellar dweller status.
Actually I think that's awesome, my Red Sox boys performance notwithstanding. Who knows how long this will last, but I would be willing to bet that one or two of the over achievers will be there at the end.
Random thoughts and observations from the first two weeks.
- I'm glad I bit the bullet and purchased the MLB baseball package before the price went up. I missed it last year, and spent a lot of time on the ESPN scoreboard.
- Now that Felix Pie is in the AL, I finally know his name is pronounced Pee-Ay instead of like Apple Pie. Sorry Felix!
- I would have preferred not to know how Mark Fidrych died. I'd rather remember his mound antics.
- I wish I knew more about Nick Adenart before he was gone.
- OK, I am biased. But I'll take Youkilis over Texiera, never mind at half the price.
- No Sophomore slump for Evan Longoria. He reminds me of a combination of Mike Schmidt and Steve Garvey.
- How long will it be until Florida cannot afford Dan Uggla?
- Such a big deal was made when Carlos Lee and Alfonso Soriano signed their big contracts. You don't hear about them quite so much, but they're doing pretty well for themselves so far this year.
- Jonathan Papelbon looks slimmer.
